The Most Fascinating Railway Adventures Across Australia: Katherine to Darwin



The newest stretch of the Ghan train heads across the arid heart of Australia, still in Alice Springs in Australia to the north of the city, Darwin.Vlak stops in the town of Katherine, an area renowned for its stunning gorges, before the track even though a lush tropical landscape of the upper the end of their final destination.

We boarded the train to Alice Springs, continuing on our way to the north. We planned to stop in Katherine explore one of the areas most spectacular wonders - Katherine Gorge. Located in a vast desert Nitmiluk National Park, Katherine Gorge is a system of 13 spectacular gorges. The landscape here is spellbinding, and out the natural beauty of flora and fauna, history and insight into Aboriginal culture and 7000 years old rock art make this one of the most spectacular regions in Australia.

Besides the walks, Katherine River flows through the canyon, providing a spectacular nature cruises. Guided nature walks in the park and helicopter flights to Birdseye view are also popular.

We decided to explore the gorge on the best way - by canoe. This is the only way to see all 13 gorges, and most spectacular scenery and the best wildlife svijet.Preko nights camping gave us enough time to see the canyon in full before re-entering the train to Darwin.

Darwin and its environs
Darwin, about 320 km. north of Katherine, Northern Territory capital is a fascinating blend of cosmopolitan city and the Australian desert. Set on a peninsula, this laid-back city is a place of sun, beaches, nightlife and the beautiful harbor. It is also the gateway to two national parks -. Famous Kakadu National Park and intimate relatives, Litchfield National Park

Kakadu National Park, known to many through the "Crocodile Dundee" is a living cultural landscape of exceptional beauty, high biodiversity and a variety of habitats, forests and wildlife. It is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including 68 species of mammals and 120 species of reptiles. In fact, all the streams and rivers of crocodile infested!

Litchfield National Park is beautiful with 4 large waterfalls and many smaller, beautiful monsoon and palm trees, pools and streams. One of the highlights of the termite mounds built to resemble tombstones.

This is the wilderness areas that make up Darwin's like anything else in the world -. Wildlife, landscape and history are unique in this area

When time is of no consequence, there is no better way to discover the beauty of Australia's Outback but to experience it on the Ghan. As the train weaves its way through a tapestry of rich colors of the country, Stark Australian desert leads to his own life.
